It's so hot & humid here! I am used to hot, being from California, but humid... yuck! That and being pregnant has made going outside practically unbearable! BUT alas, I have a toddler boy, so that really just wont work, right?! So, what's a hot momma to do? WATERPLAY!
Here are some ideas:
*Fill a big plastic storage tub with water & add buckets, cups, strainers, spoons.
*Things to potentially add to the above bucket: food color to change the water, ice, bubbles, bath toys, maybe even sand.
*Sprinkler
*Kiddie pool
*Pitchers of water & cups that your child can practice pouring (if this is something they haven't mastered)
*Colored ice cube painting (on fabric or thick paper). You can put popsicle sticks in the ice cubes so they are easier to hold
*"Cleaning" big outdoor toys, like a car, trike, balls, climbing structure, dolls, or the house!
*Painting with water (brushes, water, & wall or concrete = lots of fun)
I would say just be open to letting the kids explore the water. It really is so much fun & it's fun to see what they come up with! Have a towel or two ready for when it's time to go in & probably a change of clothes ready. Its up to you how wet you allow your child to make themself. At work we wouldn't let the children splash in the water table, because it got the other children wet (when they might not want to get that wet) & we didn't want to spend a lot of time changing 14 2-year olds! Except on Fridays during the summer we had Extreme Waterplay in the afternoon, aw memories! At home, I let Will go all out.
Now, it's time for us to head outside. We're are doing the big tub with different sized buckets & cups.
*Update* Will loved "painting" the fence. He came up with his own ideas too, watering flowers, painting mom, watering Molly (our dog) & he started to make mud, but unfortunately (for him) it was time to go make lunch. Maybe next time lil buddy.
